Focus on Markus Lüpertz’s œuvre in parallel to his rétrospective at the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris (17 April – 19 July 2015).

Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve is delighted to presented “Promenade,” an exhibition by Markus Lüpertz, as a prelude to the German artist’s retrospective opening at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris in April 2015. “Promenade” features emblematic and historic works from the 1960s (the Dithyrambs) and the 1980s, as well as several more recent paintings and sculptures never previously exhibited.

While history no doubt recorded the fact, the degree to which it fell short is now clear, a point brought home by this exhibition: having, at the turn of the 1960s, been one of the few artists to explore a new path for German art, freeing it of its fears and authority figures, Markus Lüpertz is now affirming a unique position and ambition with work wholly steeped in the enigma of its own being.

This exhibition celebrates Berlin’s art scene from the 60’s to the present day, marked by a turning point in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall. It is also a tribute to the original life of Michel Würthle, graphic artist, collector and owner of the Paris Bar, located at 152 Kantstrasse in Berlin.
